The Jeff (Ow!) Andrews Memorial Scholarship

About The Jeff (Ow!) Andrews Memorial Scholarship

Jeff Andrews' lifeblood was music. His passion for all kinds of music was undeniable if you talked to him for any length of time. Jeff played in countless bands and music projects, from his teenage years and young adulthood in Middle Tennessee to over 25 years in Upstate New York, until his 51st year of life.

Jeff was well known for his vocals in the metal scene. He had the most guttural deep growls, earth-shattering power metal screams, and beautiful melodic tones - all mixed into one unassuming man you would never expect to produce such sounds. Not only did he have one of the most distinct voices, but he also created the heaviest riffs on electric guitar, developed sweet melodies acoustically, and even fiddled on the bass from time to time.

For a man who never got over his stage fright, he was a consummate showman, and his crazy theatrics were unforgettable. His contribution to the music community was shaped by his incredibly eclectic passion for music. If you knew Jeff, it was almost guaranteed that he introduced you to a band you had never heard of - and once you did, you’d never forget them. His appreciation for music was unmatched, and he had the excitement of a kid on Christmas morning whenever he talked about it. He loved supporting and promoting as many bands as he could. He often reminisced about Lucy’s Record Shop in Nashville and continued frequenting Last Vestige in Albany until the end.

A small list of the contributions he made to this world includes his work with Held Under, Armor Column, Scavengers, The Final Sleep, Ironweed, Hush, Dryheave, Lariat, Rutger Hauer, Social Animosity, Of His Own Hand, From Ashes Rise, Brazen Youth, Dead Level, Inhumane, Denial of Grace, his last project Fleshspoil and one of his first Little Monkey on a Stick,

The Jeff (Ow!) Andrews Memorial Scholarship honors Jeff’s legacy by supporting underprivileged youth who share his deep passion for music. This scholarship provides financial assistance for a young musician to attend YEAH! Rocks Music Camp, where they can develop their skills, explore new musical styles, and experience the transformative power of music.

Your donation helps provide this opportunity to a young musician who might not otherwise be able to attend camp. By giving, you are not only keeping Jeff’s spirit alive but also empowering the next generation of artists to take the stage, just like he did.
